NVIDIA To Launch GeForce RTX 5090D In 2025

NVIDIA is said to be releasing a special edition of the GeForce RTX 5090 specifically for the Chinese market. This model will follow the RTX 4090D, introduced in late 2024 to bypass new U.S. export restrictions on high-performance GPUs. Although the specific modifications of the RTX 5090D are not yet known, the emphasis will likely be on lowering compute throughput.

The RTX 4090D maintained the same 24GB GDDR6X memory specifications and memory bandwidth as the original. However, due to stricter restrictions on compute performance, it featured 11% fewer cores and a 50W lower TDP. Initially, the card was factory-locked to 450W with no factory-overclocked versions available. Later, NVIDIA permitted board partners to increase the power limit to 600W, enabling some models to match the performance of the original RTX 4090.

With the launch still several months away, the specs may not be completely finalized. However, the company has more time to prepare, allowing for potential BIOS adjustments that might limit compute performance for AI applications, rather than reducing CUDA core count for gamers. This approach aligns with the primary reason for the restrictions.

NVIDIA is expected to unveil the RTX 50 series by the end of this year, although the release might be delayed until 2025. More details about the new series should be available in the coming months.
