AOC Unveils Its New 540Hz Agon Gaming Monitor For Esports Fans

There aren’t many gaming monitors with a 540Hz refresh rate, probably due to the various limitations that come with such high speeds. However, the selection has increased with the release of AOC’s Agon Pro AG246FK. This new monitor is a compact 24.1-inch display designed for professional gaming, featuring an extremely fast refresh rate.

One of the key issues with such a high refresh rate is its actual usefulness. There’s debate over how much benefit gamers get from 540Hz compared to 360Hz or even 240Hz. NVIDIA has been promoting the advantages of extremely high refresh rates for years.

Another significant issue is the need for powerful GPUs to fully utilize high refresh rates, especially those exceeding 500Hz. Consequently, monitors at this level typically offer lower resolutions, such as Full HD 1080p (1920×1080).

In the esports realm, speed often outweighs considerations like graphics settings and resolutions.

Additionally, monitors in this category typically feature Twisted Nematic (TN) panels rather than In-Plane Switching (IPS) or Vertical Alignment (VA). Nevertheless, AOC asserts that the AG246FK achieves 96.6% coverage of the sRGB color space and 94.7% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut. It’s also certified for DisplayHDR 400.

Regarding connectivity, the AG246FK includes two HDMI 2.0 ports, a DisplayPort 1.4 input, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and four USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports.
